The general government section of the budget contains a number of programs and departments with a wide range of responsibilities and functions. Some departments provide services to the public (such as emergency services, housing, and regulation of various industries) and other departments provide internal state functions (such as providing information technology and financial services). In addition, this part of the budget includes costs to pay state workers’ salaries and benefits. In this report, we discuss the key general government issues facing the Legislature.
