Budget Issue: | Governor proposes cutting CalWORKS Stage 3 child care by $123 million, eliminating roughly 18,000 slots. |
Program: | California Department of Education |
Finding or Recommendation: | Reject proposal, as it would terminate child care for some of the state's neediest families. Instead, lower eligibility ceilings for CalWORKS Stage 3 child care from 75 percent to 60 percent of state median income, preserving services for state's neediest families. We estimate this would save about $15 million and eliminate about 4,000 slots. |
