Reducing the Destructiveness of Wildfires: Promoting Defensible Space in California

Sep 30, 2021 - In 2019 ‑20, inspectors performed 69 p ercent of CalFire inspections, and firefighters performed 31 p ercent. In recent years, CalFire ’s base funding for defensible space inspections staff has been supplemented with additional funding from other sources —such as by utilizing a share of GGRF funds available for forest health and fire prevention activities to extend the use of seasonal inspectors to up to nine months.
