The 2023-24 California Spending Plan: Child Care and State Preschool

Nov 17, 2023 - Since 2021 ‑22, the state has added about 146,000 new slots, which more than doubled the number of subsidized child care slots in the state. As of April 2023, about 30  percent of the recently added slots have been filled.

Most AP agencies are community ‑based organizations, but in some regions the AP agency is a local governmental agency, such as a county office of education, county welfare department, or school district.

The 2023-24 Budget: Child Care Proposals

Feb 9, 2023 - The increases enacted over the past two years more than doubled the number of slots available in the AP  program (from about 66,700 to about 161,300) and GCC (from about 28,400 to about 78,500). It  was expected these slots would not be immediately filled given the amount of time needed by DSS to allocate funds to providers.
