Climate Change Impacts Across California - Crosscutting Issues

Apr 5, 2022 - Additionally, the state ’s streams and rivers will swell more in some years from earlier and faster spring snowmelt caused by higher temperatures. Scientists suggest the combination of these factors could lead to a 50  percent increase in runoff in future years, challenging the capacity of the state ’s existing reservoirs, canals, levees, and other flood control systems, and increasing the risk of inland flooding.
