Purchasing Power Protection — benefits would be maintained at 100 percent of their original purchasing power to protect against inflation. Salary for Calculating Pension — The measure changes the salary used to calculate pension benefits to the one-year period with the highest pay.

This measure adds a new section to the State Constitution that defines the existing right to defend life and liberty to include the right of each person to keep and bear arms for the defense of self, family, and home. The measure states that this right shall not be infringed.

This measure amends the California Constitution to change the way boundaries of districts for the state Legislature, the Board of Equalization, the U.S. House of Representatives from California, and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission are determined. The measure also makes changes to voting procedures and the operation of the MTC.

This measure amends the California Constitution and statutes to increase local government revenues from gambling activities. Specifically, the measure authorizes slot machines at certain California racetracks and card rooms unless all Indian tribes with existing compacts agree to specified terms.

The measure would authorize the issuance of $3 billion in state general obligation bonds to provide funding for stem cell research and research facilities in California. A new state institute would be established to use the proceeds from the sale of the state bonds to issue grants and loans for stem cell research and research facilities, and to provide oversight of stem cell research activities funded by this measure within California.

This measure (1) expands the current program to allow all cities and counties in the state to increase fines for certain traffic offenses in school zones and (2) repeals the 2007 sunset thereby extending the program permanently.

The proposed measure would amend the California Constitution and enact related statutory provisions to require a physician to notify a parent or legal guardian of a pregnant unemancipated minor prior to performing an abortion, with certain exceptions.

This measure eliminates the state and local governments' option that currently exists under federal law to provide public benefits to nonqualified aliens. This measure requires that all state and local government entities shall verify the identity and eligibility of each applicant for state and local public benefits, as defined by federal law. The measure requires each state and local government entity to assist the others by providing the information necessary to verify the identity of any applicant or recipient of a state or local public benefit. For the purposes of verification, the measure also requires that all state and local governmental entities accept only documentation that is recognized by the federal government.
November 18
The proposed initiative amends the Three Strikes law to require that second and third strike offenses must be for serious or violent crimes. The initiative also amends the law relating to sex crimes against children to require lengthier sentences and counseling services for some offenders.
