Nov 26, 2018 - Heart Disease and Diabetes Kill Many Californians. Heart disease was California ’s leading cause of death in 2016, accounting for 23  p ercent of the state ’s deaths. Diabetes was the seventh most common cause of death at 3. 5  p ercent.
