Department of Toxic Substances Control: Performance Improvement Initiatives Merit Oversight

Apr 4, 2017 - California has 118 permitted facilities that manage hazardous waste with a total of 127 permits (some facilities have more than one permit). Given the number of permits and permit term, the department must process an average of about 13 permit renewal decisions per year in order to prevent a backlog of permit renewal applications from developing.
