The 2011 Realignment of Adult Felony Populations: Results and Key Takeaways

Jun 30, 2026 - Introduction Chapter 96 of 2023 (AB 1080, Ta) directs our office to submit a report evaluating the results of realigning certain adult felony populations from the state to counties in 2011. Specifically, the law directs our office to report various pieces of information, including the amount of funding received per county, information on sentencing practices, impacts on county jail populations, and recidivism outcomes.

Feb 11, 2026 - To help ensure sufficient revenues would be available to support BOF workload, Chapter  736 of 2019 (AB  1669, Bonta) enabled DOJ to increase the DROS fee charged from $19 to $31.19. For a couple years after this fee increase, revenues generally exceeded expenditures —thereby allowing the fund balance to steadily grow.
