a Includes reductions of $1.9 million pursuant to Control Section 4.05 and $1.2 million (10 positions) pursuant to Control Section 4.12 of the 2024-25 Budget Act. The Control Section 4.05 reduction initially included $500,000 from eliminating ongoing support for the Braille Institute, Los Angeles, but the enacted budget rescinds that reduction. September budget legislation also effectively redirects all ongoing General Fund for the State Government Oral History Program ($100,000) to the Library's state operations beginning in 2024-25.
b The 2025-26 Budget Act effectively redirects all ongoing General Fund for the California Newspaper Project ($430,000) to the Library's state operations. In a tandem action, the budget provides UC a like amount to continue administering this project (at UC Riverside).  
c In 2022-23, the state provided $13 million for this digitization initiative. The 2025-26 budget allows up to $4.3 million in remaining funds to be repurposed for the Library's state operations. The state approved this action earlier in the budget cycle, but the redirection likely will not occur. (The redirection had been intended to help the Library respond to a sudden elimination of its federal funding, but that funding has since been restored.)
