August 1, 1988 - This report, submitted pursuant to the "sunset" review provisions of Chapter 1270, Statutes of 1983 (Senate Bill 1155), contains our findings and recommendations regarding the adult education program administered by the public schools. Although some community college districts also operate adult education programs, this report, as directed by Chapter 1270, is limited to those programs operated by K-12 schools.
August 1, 1988 - This report contains our findings and recommendations regarding the California Indian Education Centers program pursuant to the "sunset" review procedures enacted by Chapter 1270, Statutes of 1983 (Senate Bill 1155). As part of the sunset process, Chapter 1270 requires the State Department of Education (SDE) to review the Indian Education Centers program and submit its findings to the Legislature. Chapter I of this report provides an overview of the California Indian Education Centers program, including its purpose, operation, and fiscal data. Chapter II contains our findings and recommendations which are separate from those of SDE. Chapter III contains the SDE's recommendations and our responses to them.

July 1, 1987 - This report, submitted pursuant to the "sunset" review provisions of Chapter 1270, Statutes of 1983 (Senate Bill 1155), contains our findings and recommendations regarding the School Improvement Program (SIP). The SIP provides additional funding for participating elementary and secondary schools to spend in accordance with a plan and budget developed by local school site councils.
June 1, 1987 - This report contains our findings and recommendations regarding the Native American Indian Early Childhood Education program pursuant to the "sunset" review procedures enacted by Chapter 1270, Statutes of 1983 (Senate Bill 1155). The program was established to improve the educational accomplishments of rural Native American Indian students in pre-kindergarten through grade 4.
June 1, 1987 - This report is submitted pursuant to the "sunset" review procedures enacted by Chapter 1270, Statutes of 1983 (Senate Bill 1155). Chapter 1270 provided for termination of the Economic Impact Aid (EIA) program on June 30, 1986. Chapter 1318, Statutes of 1984 (Senate Bill 1858), which became operative on January 1, 1985, extended that date to June 30, 1987.
March 1, 1987 - Several studies have indicated that, in the next five to ten years, the State of California will experience a significant shortage of qualified teachers. Last year, in the Analysis of the 1986-87 Budget Bill, we reported on projections of the teacher shortage, and outlined a number of alternatives available to the Legislature to increase the supply of teachers.
