The 2021-22 Budget: Overview of the Governor's Budget

Feb 25, 2025 - The 2021-22 Budget Act provided EDD with funds to restart the proposed BSM IT project, and the 2022-23 Budget Act funded the first year of projects in the new EDDNext portfolio. EDDNext Is a Combination of IT and Non-IT Projects.

Broad-Based Cash Assistance in COVID-19 Recovery Actions

Apr 3, 2020 - Since the CARES Act, two additional pieces of COVID-19 relief legislation (one passed in December 2020 and the other in March  2021) also included one-time cash assistance to most Californians. Eligibility for these payments was similar across all three rounds of cash assistance, although families that included ITIN filers were only eligible to receive assistance from the March  2021 round.

The 2021-22 Spending Plan: Other Provisions

Sep 23, 2021 - The spending plan includes $276  million General Fund for EDD to retroactively perform routine UI application screenings that were temporarily suspended during the pandemic. In an effort to issue UI benefits quickly during the unprecedented pandemic workload, the LWDA Secretary directed EDD to issue initial UI benefit payments prior to determining each worker ’s final eligibility for benefits.

Update on COVID-19 Spending in California

Nov 5, 2020 - Designated Funding Unemployment Insurance (UI). Most employees are eligible to receive weekly UI benefits when they become unemployed. Federal law enacted in March  2020 made a few significant changes to UI, including providing recipients with an additional $600 per week on top of their typical benefit through July 31, 2020 and expanding UI to cover self-employed workers.

The 2026-2027 Budget: California Cannabis Control Appeals Panel Permanent Funding Request

Feb 11, 2026 - Four cases reached the panel in subsequent years —2021 to 2024 —but all were withdrawn or dismissed because the appellants had provisional licenses. CCAP asserts that the dearth of cases during this period was attributable to the fact that large numbers of cannabis licensees held provisional licenses during these years, which meant they could not appeal to the CCAP.

Feb 27, 2026 - In addition, starting in 2021, 23 of the state ’s dispatch centers began transitioning voice calls from legacy 911 to Next Generation 911 with some experiencing difficulties. Specifically, some of these early adopters, such as Tuolumne Couty, reported experiencing call routing problems, outages, and dropped calls.

The 2022-23 Budget: Office of Planning and Research Budget Proposals

Feb 9, 2022 - The 2021 ‑22  budget package included $4.7  million one ‑time General Fund to expand the Climate Action Corps program and fund stipends and administrative costs through 2023 ‑24. This provided 236 service opportunities in the summer of 2021 and 50 full ‑time service opportunities for the 2021 ‑22 year.
