Apr 5, 2022 - For instance, as shown in Figure  1 , from 2008 ‑09 to 2016 ‑17, an average of about 70  schools experienced wildfire ‑related emergency closures each year. In contrast, the state averaged more than 1,600 schools closed due to wildfires annually from 2017 ‑18 through 2019 ‑20.
