Aug 17, 2023 - According to the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development ’s 2022 point-in-time count, 23  percent (39,700) of the 171,500 people experiencing homelessness in California suffered from severe mental illness and 21  percent (36,000) suffered from a chronic SUD.
