Feb 25, 2025 - Under CDCR regulations, people are not supposed to stay in MHCBs for more than ten days. The annual cost of opera ting each MHCB is around $400, 000 —including custody staff. Currently, there are 392 MHCBs at men ’s prisons and 41 MHCBs at women ’s prisons.
