Nov 8, 2023 - In 2008, the OIG began its statewide inspections using teams of physicians, registered nurses, deputy inspector generals, and analysts. In 2011, the Legislature codified in statute the OIG ’s medical inspection function.

State Corrections: Response to COVID-19

May 8, 2020 - CDCR used this authority to expedite the release of about 3,500 inmates who were due to be released within 60 days of March  31, 2020 and were (1)  not serving sentences for violent crimes or domestic violence and (2)  not required to register as sex offenders.

The 2022-23 Budget: Governor’s Public Safety Package

Feb 17, 2022 - The state ’s Armed and Prohibited Persons System (APPS) identifies individuals who legally purchased or registered firearms, but subsequently became prohibited from owning or possessing them. These “armed and prohibited persons ” include those convicted of felonies and some misdemeanors, found by a court to be a danger to themselves or others due to mental illness, or have a restraining order against them.
