This project, which is expected to be completed by 2029, has been identified by the state and federal governments as a way to control salinity, improve water quality, and allow free fish passage in these south Delta channels.

Improving California’s Response to the Environmental and Safety Hazards Caused by Abandoned Mines

Aug 4, 2020 - Second, diversion channels were constructed to divert water around the site in order to prevent erosion of the cover materials which could expose the original tailings stockpile. Combined, these remediation measures prevent water from eroding the tailings material stockpile, potentially releasing harmful chemicals from entering surface water.
