Notes:
Figure shows selected ongoing state and institutional gift aid programs supported with core funds (state General Fund and student tuition revenue). Although eligibility criteria vary by program, these programs generally require students to meet certain financial criteria. See "Financial Aid Award Coverage" for a description of each award.
Figure does not include federal gift aid programs, the largest of which is the Pell Grant. In 2021-22, the maximum Pell Grant is scheduled to increase by $150 (2.4 percent) to $6,495. Students may use Pell Grants for tuition or nontuition costs.
The UC and CSU summer financial aid award amounts are calculated for a student enrolled in 15 units on a semester calendar.
Students who receive the Cal Grant B Access Award also receive a supplemental award funded by the College Access Tax Credit (CATC). The 2021-22 Budget Act caps the supplemental award at $12, though the actual award amount may be lower depending on available CATC revenues.
We estimate the UC Grant nontuition award based on the average undergraduate cost of attendance, less systemwide tuition and fees and a self-help expectation.
UC = University of California. WASC = Western Association of Schools and Colleges. CSU = California State University. BOG = Board of Governors. CCC = California Community Colleges.
