Living Under Smoky Skies—Understanding the Challenges Posed by Wildfire Smoke in California

Nov 14, 2022 - A third 2022 study revealed links between estimated exposure to smoke from wildfires and various labor outcomes, including lower income, employment, and labor force participation. Specifically, the study estimated that wildfire smoke reduced nationwide earnings from jobs by an average of close to 2 percent per year (the equivalent of $125 billion annually) between 2007 and 2019.
