This is a net decrease of $15.5 billion (45 percent) compared to 2022‑23 estimated levels.

While overall health effects from wildfire smoke still are being studied, a rough estimate suggests wildfire smoke in 2020 caused about 20 deaths per 100,000 adults over the age of 65.
