California's Employment Development Department and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released California's June 2018 state jobs report on July 20, 2018. California's official unemployment rate held steady at 4.2%, the lowest recorded rate since the series was first established in 1976. The figure below shows a variety of data about jobs in California including the distribution of jobs across the state and average annual pay by sector. The change in employment is based on the monthly survey of employers. California is no longer adding jobs faster than the nation as a whole, but the state's information and professional/technical services sectors that include most of it high-paying technology firms both continue to grow strongly.
