As of July, about 73,500 building permits have been issued throughout the state in 2018. This is 9 percent more than the first seven months of 2017.

Single family homes (35,491) have made up about half of the statewide total so far this year, as they have in recent years. After dipping below 2017 levels in June, July single family permits were up 27 percent compared to a year ago. Overall, single family permits are up 9 percent through the first seven months of 2018 compared to 2017.

Multifamily housing units (38,035) account for the other half of the statewide total. July was another strong month for multifamily permits, up 12 percent compared to a year ago. Overall, multifamily permits are up 10 percent through the first seven months of 2018 compared to 2017.

Through July, there have been 5,775 permits issued in Riverside County. This is 20 percent more than the amount issued in the first seven months of 2017 (4,767). Both single family and multifamily building have seen an uptick in 2018.
