Mar 3, 2026 - SSP Grants Were Increased in 2016-17, 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24.  Since the Great Recession, as seen in Figure  2, grants for individuals and couples have been increased four times —in 2016-17 (by 2.76  percent), 2021-22 (by 23.95  percent), 2022-23 (by 10.3  percent), and 2023-24 (by 9.2  percent).

Feb 28, 2017 - As shown in Figure  3, a majority of the state ’s available TANF block grant funds (about 58  percent in 2017 ‑18) is used to support the CalWORKs program. These funds, however, are also used to support a variety of other programs in the state budget, such as student financial aid, Child Welfare Services, and community-based services for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Trends in CalWORKs: Participant Characteristics

Jun 16, 2025 - This policy was repealed in the 2016 ‑17 Budget Act. Increased Adult Recipient Time Limits. The  adult lifetime aid limit changed twice between 2010 and 2024. In 2011, it was reduced from 60 months to 48 months (in an effort to reduce costs).
