The 2025-26 California Spending Plan: Proposition 98 and K-12 Education

Nov 10, 2025 - The budget provides $30  million for the National Board Program. Similar to the funding provided for the program in 2021-22, the budget sets aside $3  million of the total to cover the fees of first-time applicants to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards program and uses the remaining funds to award up to $25,000 to teachers who become certified by the program.

Mar 4, 2025 - School Food Best Practices Fund ($100   Million). The 2022 ‑23 budget package provided $100  million for LEAs to implement various initiatives referred to as school food best practices. Specifically, LEAs could use funds to (1)  purchase California ‑grown or produced foods that are sustainably grown, whole, or minimally processed; (2)  purchase plant ‑based or restricted diet meals; and/or (3)  freshly prepare meals on ‑site.

Feb 19, 2026 - Requirements for New Grantees Begin in 2029 ‑30. LEAs receiving funding would be required to annually report and publicly present their community school plans. For new community schools grantees, the administration indicates annual reporting requirements would begin in 2029 ‑30, when they will be required to submit an implementation plan by December 31, 2029.
