Applicants must also meet one of the following conditions: (1)  qualify for a Pell Grant, Cal Grant, or Middle Class Scholarship (MCS); (2)  need to work part time to cover education costs; or (3)  have borrowed student loans.

Feb 28, 2024 - CPUC completed its draft of the state ’s initial proposal for the BEAD program on November 7, 2023. CPUC received several dozen comments during the public comment period that ended December 7, 2023. CPUC then submitted the state ’s initial proposal as two volumes (based on federal guidance) on December 27, 2023.

State Assistance to Businesses in Response to COVID-19

Jan 4, 2024 - Figures 7 and Figure 8 show the amount of restaurant grants and shuttered venue grants, respectively, by metro area (scaled using total businesses in that area). Some Northern California metros, including San Francisco, San Jose, Napa, and Salinas received disproportionally more restaurant grants while some Southern California metro areas, including San Luis Obispo and Los Angeles, received more shuttered venue grants.

Federal COVID-19-Related Funding to California

Moreover, we find that the state likely will be unable to afford the overall spending levels in 2024 ‑25, 2025 ‑26, and 2026 ‑27 proposed in the Governor ’s 2023 ‑24 budget, including the resumption of delayed one ‑time spending for broadband infrastructure.
