Aug 19, 2025 - The study compares the state with 20 fire departments across California. The study found that state compensation for firefighters lags compensation provided to local fire department firefighters by between 11 percent to 29 percent, depending on the classification.

MOU Fiscal Analysis: Bargaining Unit 16 (Physicians, Dentists, and Podiatrists)

Jul 14, 2025 - The most recent compensation study conducted by CalHR evaluated three occupation groups represented by Unit 16—dentists, family medicine physicians, and psychiatrists. The study found that both the wages and total compensation earned by state dentists and family medicine physicians was significantly above market.

As part of the recent RAND study, the authors estimated that the present discounted cost of all SIBTF claims totals $7.9  billion. (Discounted value is a measure of the value today of costs that will occur in the future, adjusted for the fact that a dollar now is worth more than a dollar years from now.)

The 2021-22 Budget: Labor Agreements Ending Personal Leave Program 2020

Jun 25, 2021 - In our 2019 analysis, we concluded that these two studies and the 2019 CalHR study clearly demonstrate that Unit 2 attorneys are compensated at levels lower than their local government counterparts. Given the findings of these compensation studies, providing additional GSIs without a new compensation study likely is reasonable.
