The 2023-24 Budget: CalWORKs

Feb 22, 2023 - Federal law allows for a degree of state flexibility in the use of federal TANF funds. The state receives $3.7  billion annually for its TANF block grant, about $2  billion of which goes to CalWORKs (an additional $1  billion helps fund aid for some low-income college students and the remainder helps fund a variety of smaller human services programs).
