Feb 26, 2026 - Faculty FTE increased by 1.5  percent annually over the past decade, contributing to an increase in the student ‑to ‑faculty ratio from 14.0 to 14.6. Though UC ’s workforce grew notably over much of the past ten years, UC implemented a systemwide hiring freeze beginning April 1, 2025.

Jan 30, 2024 - Specifically, as Figure  5 shows, they add $1.5  billion in costs in 2025 ‑ 26 —consisting of $499  million in one ‑time back payments and a $1  billion ongoing General Fund augmentation. Given the state ’s projected budget deficit in 2025 ‑26, the additional $1.5  billion for UC and CSU would require a like amount of other budget solutions, meaning other state programs might need to be cut to make room for the additional higher education spending.

Mar 29, 2023 - The 2019 ‑20 budget provided CCC with $1.5  million one ‑time Proposition  98 General Fund for the pilot. Chapter  603 required the Legislative Analyst ’s Office (LAO) to evaluate the pilot and report to the Legislature and Department of Finance by April  1,  2023.
