The 2025-26 Budget: Transitional Kindergarten Multilingual Learner Screeners

Feb 26, 2025 - Districts would be required to administer the screener within 60 days of a student beginning to participate in TK, but no later than December 15. Districts would also be required to share with CDE the number of mul tilingual learners identified using the screener.

Mar 4, 2025 - Commercial Dishwashers ($15   Million). The  2023 ‑24 budget package provided $15  million for LEAs to purchase or install commercial dishwashers for their nutrition programs. The grants were intended to reduce single ‑use plastic, such as to use reusable instead of disposable trays.

Current Penalty Structure Has Trade ‑Offs. Compared with other elementary grades, the state provides higher levels of funding for TK, as well as stricter requirements with relatively stringent penalties for noncompliance.
