Today the U.S. Census Bureau released preliminary estimates of nationwide retail sales in December 2021 and revised estimates for November 2021. (The data include both brick-and-mortar and Internet sales.)
Retail Sales Dropped, But Remain High By Historical Standards. Seasonally adjusted U.S. retail sales dropped 1.9 percent from November to December. This decline was in line with the types of month-to-month fluctuations seen throughout 2021. Overall, sales were still 17 percent above last December.
