The 2022-23 Budget Act included $500  million General Fund in 2023-24 to provide small businesses financial assistance to partially offset their increased payroll tax costs related to repaying the federal UI loan.

The 2021-22 Spending Plan: Other Provisions

Sep 23, 2021 - The spending plan includes $276  million General Fund for EDD to retroactively perform routine UI application screenings that were temporarily suspended during the pandemic. In an effort to issue UI benefits quickly during the unprecedented pandemic workload, the LWDA Secretary directed EDD to issue initial UI benefit payments prior to determining each worker ’s final eligibility for benefits.
