Sep 7, 2023 - Vacant Positions Unit 16 Vacancy Rate Higher Today Than in 2006. While the receiver characterized a 20  percent vacancy rate as “huge ” in 2006, the Unit 16 vacancy rate (as of August 31, 2023) is about 32  percent.

Jun 23, 2025 - Since 2006, inflation has eroded the average Unit 6 base pay such that the average real monthly base pay in 2024 was almost 11 percent lower than it was in 2006. However, average real base pay remains 6 percent higher than it was in 2003 when the state last experienced significant challenges recruiting correctional officers.

May 19, 2025 - An example of the state doing this was in 2006 when the state and California Statewide Law Enforcement Association agreed that the state would reduce its contribution towards health premiums of employees represented by Bargaining Unit 7 from the “85/80 formula” to the less generous 80/80 formula.

Sep 7, 2023 - Controlling for inflation, Figure 7 shows that average Unit 6 base pay increased by 18 percent between 2003 and 2006 under the terms of the 2001‑06 MOU. Since 2006, inflation has eroded the average Unit 6 base pay such that real base pay in 2022 was almost 9 percent lower than it was in 2006.

Aug 23, 2024 - After Unit 6 salaries were decoupled from Unit 5 salaries in 2006, the salary growth moderated and today is in line with inflation growth. In contrast, after 2006, Unit 5 average base pay continued to grow much faster than inflation.
