The 2025-26 Budget: Transitional Kindergarten

Feb 18, 2025 - TK Enrollment Has Grown 70   Percent Since 2019. In 2023 ‑24, 151,500 students across the state were enrolled in TK. This reflects an increase of 76,000 students (101  percent) from the 2021 ‑22 school year, the year prior to expansion.

The 2025-26 Budget: School Nutrition

Mar 4, 2025 - In 2023 ‑24, the state served 8.9  percent more breakfasts than it did in 2022 ‑23. This compares to 3.6  percent more lunches during the same period. Over this same period, statewide average daily attendance has declined due to lower attendance rates and a decrease in the school age  population.

Feb 15, 2024 - The  remainder of the growth ($69  million) is primarily attributed to the anticipated federal COLA that would increase the state contribution for meals at the paid rate. The  Governor ’s budget assumes the paid state rate will increase to $5.13 per lunch, reflecting a 6  percent increase from 2023 ‑24.

Nov 28, 2023 - To be eligible for TK, a child must have their fifth birthday by April 2 in 2023-24, compared with February 2 in 2022-23. For 2022-23, the budget package reduces estimated costs of TK expansion by $257  million to reflect lower than anticipated TK attendance.
