Dec 15, 2016 - Proposition 30 of 2012 increased the state’s sales and use tax (SUT) and personal income tax rates. The quarter-cent SUT rate created by Proposition 30 will expire on January 1, 2017. As a result, sales tax rates in California—which vary across cities and counties , currently ranging from 7.5 percent to 10 percent—will drop into the 7.25 percent to 9.75 percent range.
