SB 1 Has Doubled Major Source of State Funding for Local Streets and Roads

Jan 24, 2020 - The transportation improvement fee went into effect on January 1, 2018 and charges vehicle owners a registration fee that ranges from $25 to $175 based on the market value of the vehicle. The road improvement fee will begin July 1, 2020 and will charge an annual $100 vehicle registration fee on zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) model year 2020 and later.

Feb 8, 2018 - The budget provided a $ 12  m illion one ‑time increase for Caltrans to replace 1, 100 o f its IT devices, such as network switches. In its proposal, Caltrans noted that about 6, 000 o f its 11,000 IT devices were at the end of their useful life, and it would use the funding to replace devices at the greatest risk of failure.

The 2018-19 Budget: Governor’s May Revision Proposal for Caltrans’ Capital Outlay Support Program

May 13, 2018 - The Governor proposes $3.3  million annually for Caltrans to pay for additional permits as part of its SB  1 workload. According to Caltrans, the proposed increase to obtain permits is proportional to the proposed increase in funding for state highway rehabilitation projects due to SB  1 —a 58  percent increase.

Specifically, the budget proposes $500  million for infill housing development, $300  million for the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities Program, $100  million to build housing on excess state sites, and $100  million to repurpose existing commercial buildings for housing.
