The 2018-19 Budget: Meeting Workforce Demand for Certified Nursing Assistants in Skilled Nursing Facilities

Apr 27, 2018 - Both of the new requirements become effective July 1, 2018. If a facility cannot comply with one or both of the requirements by July 1, 2018, it can request a “workforce shortage ” waiver from DPH. The department is currently finalizing the application and evaluation process for this waiver.

The most recent projections from CalPERS indicate that the state ’s pension contributions for miscellaneous employees will increase from 29.3  percent of pay in 2018-19 to 32.6  percent of pay by 2021-22.

Jan 9, 2020 - Although DDS recently has operated other large facilities —like Fairview Developmental Center —that employed psychiatric technicians who had to work mandatory overtime hours, the department has been in the process of closing these facilities and will be moving the final residents to community-based settings in January 2020.
