Update on Student Housing Assistance

May 7, 2024 - Of the colleges, 27 enroll fewer than 10,000 students, 47 enroll between 10,000  and 20,000 students, and 42 enroll more than 20,000 students. Nearly all community college students are commuters. Only 13 community colleges currently offer on ‑campus housing, with most of these located in rural areas that are more difficult to access (due to geography and weather) than other campuses.

Feb 23, 2023 - In 2021 ‑22 (the first of the five years covered by the General Fund appropriation), CSAC spent only $42  million of the $98  million available for grants. Program demand, however, has increased notably following the significant eligibility expansions enacted in the 2022 ‑23 budget package.

The 2023-24 Budget: California Community Colleges

Feb 22, 2023 - By comparison, under the interpretation of the Chancellor ’s Office, 42 districts receive stability funding and only 2 are funded based on the SCFF calculation. From a cost perspective, DOF accordingly budgets nothing for the stability provision, whereas the Chancellor ’s Office estimates the stability provision costs $145  million in 2023 ‑24.

The 2022-23 Budget: California State University

Feb 15, 2022 - Based on a 2018 CSU study, 63  percent of foster youth attending CSU reported experiencing food insecurity, compared to 42  percent of all CSU students. In addition, 25  percent of foster youth reported being homeless at least once in the past 12 months, compared to 11  percent of all students.
