COVID-19: American Rescue Plan’s Major Health-Related Funding Provisions

May 6, 2021 - In 2020, the state Legislature approved an extension of Medi-Cal coverage for postpartum women with mental health conditions to 12 months after childbirth. Because federal rules limit Medicaid coverage to 60 days following childbirth, the cost of extending postpartum coverage from 60 days to 12 months for women with mental health conditions is incurred entirely by the state.
