A 2017 analysis by CARB, U.S.  EPA, and NHTSA estimated that the existing emission standards will reduce lifetime GHG emissions from all model year 2021 t hrough 2025 vehicles sold in the nation by about 100  m illion metric tons per model year ( 540  m illion metric tons total).
